This is something that you can easily do from home, and you don’t need any crazy equipment.

So, what exactly are printables?

Printables are online products that customers can download and print at their own home. Run Facebook ads for local businesses at home

By running Facebook ads for local businesses, you can help small businesses reach new customers.

This is a skill that you can learn online as well.

Facebook is one of the largest advertising spaces that exists, so this is an area that will just continue to grow and be popular.

My friend Bobby Hoyt knows a lot about this topic. Bobby is a former high school teacher who has paid off $40,000 of student loan debt in a year and a half. He now runs the personal finance blog Millennial Money Man full-time, as well as a digital marketing agency for local businesses that he started in 2015.

You can create Canva templates to sell and make money all from your home – and never have to ship a thing.

Become a virtual assistant to earn money online.

One of the most real ways to make money from home for free is to become a virtual assistant. This is something that so many people are doing nowadays, and I believe the need for virtual assistants will just continue to grow and grow.

Not only does the internet allow us to complete more daily tasks online, more and more people are working from home in fields such as blogging, social media, etc. This means virtual assistants are becoming even more in demand.

Online assistant tasks may include social media management, formatting and editing content, scheduling appointments or travel, email management, and more. Basically, you can get paid to do any task that needs to be done in someone’s business, but doesn’t need to be done by them.

She is super successful despite only spending around 5-10 hours per week on her e-commerce business.

Jenn Leach also has a course called E-commerce and Prosper that teaches you how to start an online store. She reveals her successful rinse and repeat formula to students in her course. It’s the same formula she uses to earn an average of $19,000 per month. In her course you will learn:

  • How to start an online store.
  • Winning e-commerce success tools.
  • How to turbocharge your e-commerce success.
  • How to start making money in THREE days.

Grammar nut? Try proofreading for a living.

Have you ever read an obvious mistake and wanted to fix it?

Proofreaders look for punctuation mistakes, misspelled words, lack of consistency, and formatting errors.

You take content that other people have written and then go over it with a fine-tooth comb. You might be proofreading blog posts, print articles, academic articles, website copy, ad copy, books, student papers, emails, and more.

In one year, my friend Caitlin made around $43,000 by working as a freelance proofreader.

In her free 76-minute workshop, you will learn:

  • Common questions about becoming a proofreader
  • How to become a proofreader
  • 5 signs proofreading could be a perfect fit for you

Start a successful freelance writing career.

Becoming a freelance writer is one of the best ways to make money online.

Earn affiliate income at home

For me, this is the top way that I earn money at home.

So, what is affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is when you earn an income by placing a referral link on your website, blog, Instagram, Facebook, and so on and have people purchase a product or service through your referral link.

An example would be Amazon book sales, where you link to a specific book on your blog and try to get people to purchase the book through your affiliate link. Amazon and other companies want quality affiliates under their belt because they want all the help they can get to promote the products and services they are selling.

If you get someone to sign up through your affiliate link, the company pays you for promoting their product.

You can share an affiliate link with your audience in many different ways, such as:

  • By adding an affiliate link to your blog (you can do this by inserting a link within a blog post, page, email, etc.)
  • Sharing it on social media
  • And more!

If you want to learn more about affiliate marketing, I recommend signing up for Affiliate Marketing Tips For Bloggers – Free eBook.

This is a great list, and I know I missed a few of these their first time around. We’ve got some reading to do to catch up!

  2. I made $775 dollars on eBay in the past 2 months – not rockstar status but for selling some clutter around the house and clothes? Feels pretty good!!

I always get people saying they need a personal assistant but no one makes the move, I think PAs do valuable work removing the monotony.

    1. Great job! Where do you find items to sell?

  3. Jonathan

I was inspired by your strides to start my own blog. Admittedly am casual about it presently. ‘Just testing the water’, as they say. And I can see that it requires some effort to get going at the beginning. But am determined to give it the hammering it needs to take off. Thanks.

      1. Patricia

Michelle thank you so much for this article! I’ve been contemplating a blog for years. Yo are an inspiration!!

  4. yukasa nunez

    Hi!
I started reading your e-newsletter since I found out about you from Mo Money Podcast. I love this content and I can tell you what my side hustle is that was not mentioned here. I have been a virtual translator via Upwork (freelancing platform). Since I’m originally from Japan, I started offering beginner to intermediate level translation last year. Since then, I have delivered over 6 dozens projects all satisfactorily. I like that each and every project is so unique and it really stimulates my brain and challenge myself to deliver high quality translation services. My hope is that one day when I get pregnant or want to stay home with my babies, I can just do this freelancing job and quit my 9-5 job. Upwork offers so many types of freelancing jobs other than translation, so I recommend to anyone who wants to capitalize their underutilized talents.

    1. Glad you found my website 🙂 Thanks for sharing your side hustle – sounds interesting!

  5. It’s all about who is ready to put in hard work. It’s not a get rich quick scheme.

  6. Maribel Duran

Thank you for this list Michelle, I had been considering a few of them but bookkeeping has been something I wanted to do for a while. This gave me the tools to get started.

  7. Great post about side-hustles Michelle. You listed a few ideas that piqued my interest…. I did look into the teaching English gig on VIPKids, the approval process seems long but I’m still interested.

I’ve been following your blog for a while now and I wanted to let you know that you inspired me to start my own just recently. I’m fully financially independent, but only semi-retired due to concerns over healthcare costs. But in my mid-40’s I think I still qualify as “early” semi-retired.

I’m just absolutely amazed at the audience you’ve built with your blog and the income you produce. I have no hopes of getting anywhere even in the same galaxy as you, but hope I can add a voice to the community and help at least a few folks. And I used your Bluehost link to get started 🙂

    1. Aww thanks! Have fun blogging!

  8. Hi Michelle,

These are pretty awesome ways to make money blogging. I’m enjoying mine over here on my blog. Sometimes I wonder what I would have been doing if I didn’t own a blog.

I’m not yet making as much money as I would want to but blogging has changed my life.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Emenike

  9. Hi Michelle,
Thanks for the list of work from home jobs, will have to look into a few of these.

  10. With e-Commerce being at high tide in today’s era of information technology, how could anyone ignore the golden opportunity of creating an online side hustle as a means of generating solid stable income?

  11. Damn Millennial

I have heard of a lot of success in the FBA world. Once you find your niche product you can start developing some personal branding. Those who take it seriously are able to make some solid cash. Thanks for sharing this list.

  12. Lourdes

Michelle, Thanks for this article! Tell me about taxes. Our plan is to travel across the United States and work from our RV. How do we do with state taxes as we travel from one state to another? Curious, Lourdes

  13. I tried the Amazon thing last year but I didn’t get that far or make much. But I am doing pretty good with my bookkeeping business. I’ve been thinking about doing Ben’s course but haven’t decided yet.

I have a bookkeeping biz, and courses like Ben werent around when I went to school to learn accounting. It would definitely be helpful for a newly graduated student of accounting. I haven’t taken this course though, but I’ve done a similar course on creating a bookkeeping biz.

  15. Hi Michelle, such a great post! My bread and butter is freelance writing, and I’ve used that to create a full-time income online for around seven years now. I also have an eBay reselling business, and I absolutely LOVE doing that… Working from home can be quite isolating at times, so I love scheduling thrift store trips etc into my working week. It keeps me sane, and reselling is so fun 🙂

Thanks for sharing your experience. My daughter has been looking into this for a while to put herself thru college and it’s geen a struggle.
Is it possible to contact your for some guidance?

  17. Hello there!

Lemme emphasize on freelancing. There are a lot of genuine freelancing sites out there that pays you nicely. I am a semi-professional freelancer at Upwork and it is one of the best sites out there. Do try sites like iWriter and freelancer too. Fiverr is not bad either. 🙂

  18. Making money from home is a blessing when you can do something you love in your spare time and use that business passion to drive unlimited profits into your bank account quietly. 🙂

  19. Pauline at The Penny Genie

Great post Michelle! You also inspired me to start a blog. I don’t think I will be as successful as you, but if I can help a few people, I would be happy.

  20. Writing is a very lucrative online career that can do more than be a side hustle. It’s a good thing the internet is here to stay and here’s why. For like-minded individuals looking to transition smoothly from a cushy day job to a side hustle and turn the side hustle into the full-time job will need to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to making the “writing side hustle” work for them. While a job is always good to have @ 1st because you need a roof over your head, one should focus more on entrepreneurship and not just having a job to pay the bills. That’s what the employer wants their employees to think and not be their own boss. Side hustles in my personal opinion bring out the best in everyone who makes good of writing online.

  21. Starting a blog really helps you out. Quite affordable to start and with great returns (after a good amount of work, of course). Thanks for the list, Michelle!

  22. Shirley Bongbong

Starting a blog can be good, but it seems that the traffic is very elusive these days. How do you intend to manage a new blog at this time?

  23. Hi Michelle, this is a great list! I’ve been blogging since 2016 but I’m not making much yet. I got into affiliate marketing recently, so I’m hoping to see some financial blessings soon.

  24. wow this list is great! time to make more money! Thanks!

  25. maria

    I’m amazed…wow!!!

  26. With all of you inspirational entrepreneurs, you give hope to the rest of us! Thank you for this list and I look forward to reading your upcoming posts!

    Hi Michelle,

I want to start an affiliate marketing blog and also sell some of my career expertise such as career coaching and helping people with resumes and cover letters. I want to start a blog through your blue host link but I have some questions first. How do I create appropriate affiliate disclosures? What is the privacy policy that meets GDPR guidelines? (what does GDPR stand for?) Are there any more regulatory guidelines I need to know about? Also, what are some of the best affiliate sites to apply to? The only one I know about is Amazon.

    Thanks,

    Heather

  28. 100% of bloggers will not make money. Is that what you’re asking? That would be like saying 100% of lottery players would win the lottery. Or, 100% of people who start a business will see success.

  29. I keep the dates – is that what you’re asking? Not sure if I understand your question.

  30. Sheryl Henrickson

Thanks for sharing this post. As of now I’m learning as SEO in order to have income. Hope this blog will be helpful for me

The most important thing is to understand you basics. What do you want to do and how do you start with it. I have had a tremendous help from this training platform that is teaching me the ropes. From affiliate marketing to creating your own brand or blogs.

  32. SANDY

i love you tips and advice, i have just came across your blog 🙂

  33. Michel Maling

Great post and some great and legitimate ideas to make money from home online.

My personal favorite is building out websites and doing affiliate marketing. I like this method as it is semi passive, and often you don’t have to work on your website each day, but you still get sales on autopilot.

I wish I could find the time to write an ebook as I think I would enjoy doing that too.

  34. John Galt

A lot of good information here.

I personally like blogging a lot. It’s quite stable and allows room for a little bit of everything. I guess we’re in agreement there. 😉

It’s also impressive how you’ve managed to incorporate each section into detailed interviews. Having case studies to reference helps immensely.

    Thanks!

  35. Ngozi

This is an awesome list of ways to make money. I am doing some of these already and would definitely look into a couple more to increase my extra side hustle income.

    Thanks for this list.

  36. Shirley

Can almost anyone blog or do you have to know a lot about a particular subject?

    1. Hey Shirley!

      I answer this a little here – https://www.makingsenseofcents.com/2019/04/how-to-earn-money-blogging.html

You don’t need to be an expert, as long as you don’t pretend that you are. People love hearing personal experiences.

  37. I am from Indonesia.
Can i make money from home too ?

  38. Laura

Excellent ideas, I love it. I do have a blog that I operate, but I thought about also becoming a freelance writer. I hear a person can make 10-15 cents a word as a writer. Now that can be some pretty good money.
I did the e-commerce, not so good at it and selling on eBay, but I got bored with that. Do you think someone can get enough work as a freelance writer?

  39. Will MacLurcan

Great ideas there, Michelle! I came across this blog as I was looking for other ways to earn some money. I kinda ran out of doable side hustles in my case. I did pick up some new stuff from you and I love that you share them based on your personal experience. 🙂 If I may add, renting out clothes (especially designer dresses) is also something you can try. My wife does it a lot so she can justify buying new ones. I don’t have a website but i’ll use the site where I got the idea from.

  40. Love your post. You really outlined some great ways to earn income online. I have tried my hand at most of them lol. It can be an arduous task for someone just starting in the online world, to find the business model that suits them.
I personally have found my path through blogging and affiliate marketing. In my opinion it one of the easiest routes to go, and pretty much anyone can start up an affiliate business.

  41. Hi Michelle.

I’d like to launch an affiliate marketing blog and also sell some of my professional services, such as career coaching and resume and cover letter assistance. I’d want to start a blog using your blue host connection, but first I have a few questions. What should I include in my affiliate disclosures? What is the company’s GDPR-compliant privacy policy? (Did you know what GDPR stands for?) Is there anything else I need to know about regulatory guidelines? What are some of the finest affiliate sites to submit an application to? Amazon is the only one I’m aware of.
    Thanks,

    1. Hello!

Hi Michelle. Thank you for the info. I am interested in starting a blog and will do your course to get more clarity in my find. I am a retired banker with a lifetime of experience, but I know blogging about this may not be for me. It is either blogging or proofreading. I am an avid reader with a critical eye. I am South African and live in one of the best land-based whale sighting spots on the planet being Hermanus, Western Cape.
