Course Hero is a website that helps high school and college students with course-specific questions.

Using the website, students connect with Course Hero tutors on a wide range of subjects and classes, which makes this a great side hustle for people with different educational backgrounds and experience.

Tutors earn an average of $3 for each question they answer on Course Hero. Earning between $12-$20 per hour, Course Hero tutors earn an average of $300/week.

It’s very flexible because you can answer questions whenever you please.

I love finding flexible ways to make extra money. That’s exactly what I did when I was working to pay off my student loan debt. I found ways to earn money outside of my normal job, in the evenings, weekends, and even during my lunch hour.

Finding flexible side hustles, like becoming a Course Hero tutor, can change your life in some really great ways, such as helping you with:

  • Paying off your debt.
  • Saving up for big purchases, like vacations.
  • Getting out of a paycheck to paycheck lifestyle.
  • Retiring earlier than you had originally planned.
  • Realizing that your job isn’t the only option out there, especially if you are currently feeling stuck.
  • Help you to become more diversified and make money in more ways.
  • Travel more, or even full-time!

As you can tell, I am a big believer that learning to find new ways to make money can completely change your future for the better, which is why I am really excited to tell you more in this Course Hero review.

What is Course Hero? Is Course Hero Reputable?

“Is Course Hero a legitimate site?”

Yes, it is!

Course Hero was founded in 2007 and is an online learning website where students can access study resources. Students can search by their specific school to find study guides, videos, practice problems, class notes, and step-by-step explanations.

The idea is to help students succeed in the classes they are taking.

There are already over 25,000,000 study resources that have been contributed to Course Hero, and they have a community of 10,000,000 students.

But, Course Hero offers more than just the resources I’ve listed above. If students are struggling with specific problems or subjects, they can ask questions to get tutoring help. Course Hero wants to keep the turnaround fast (why they are always looking for more tutors), and quickly getting answers to questions is one of the things students love about Course Hero.

Here’s how Course Hero tutors work:

  1. You apply here to become a Course Hero tutor.
  2. When you are available to answer questions, you do so on the Course Hero website.
  3. You get paid.

What subjects can you tutor on?

With Course Hero, you can tutor on subjects such as:

  • Business
  • Finance
  • Economics
  • Math
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • History
  • Management
  • Psychology

And more!

What might surprise you to learn in this Course Hero review is that you don’t have to be a certified tutor, a professor, or a teacher in order to become a Course Hero tutor.

However, you will need to share information that proves you have an expertise in the categories which you would like to tutor.

How much money can you make as a Course Hero tutor?

As a Course Hero tutor, you earn $3 for every question you answer successfully, that means you are giving correct and valuable information. You can answer as many questions as you would like, and I know I’ve said this already in my Course Hero review, but all the work is done on your own schedule.

Considering that you can make between $12-$20 per hour as your Course Hero tutor payment, working as a Course Hero tutor is a great side hustle opportunity that makes the most of your time. Course Hero tutors average $300/week, and the top tutors earn around $500 a week.

The way you are paid to answer questions is that students pay for access to Course Hero study resources and tutors. Because you are helping them get the information you need, Course Hero pays you for your time and knowledge.

Can anyone become a Course Hero tutor? What are the requirements? How do I become a Course Hero tutor?

To become a Course Hero tutor, you must:

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree from a U.S. or Canadian University (any major, it does NOT have to be in teaching).
  • Live in the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, or the United Kingdom.

What’s the schedule like for Course Hero tutors? How do you earn money on Course Hero?

The schedule is whatever you want it to be, as you work from home and answer questions when you are available. There isn’t a minimum number of hours each week to work, and you don’t have to answer a set number of questions each week.

To earn the most, you will have to not only provide valuable information, you’ll need to answer as many questions as your schedule allows. Even so, this is still a very flexible side hustle and online job that lets you earn extra money from the comfort of your home.

The CourseHero platform allows you to earn money by assisting students with homework help, essays, study material, course-specific study resources, tutor questions, and more, so that students can improve their grades and their GPA.

You understand that Course Hero is a site that encourages cheating and plagiarism? Students upload completed assignments/ courses for others to download and use in their entirety. The site also uses a share model where students upload work in order to download other work. I am a teacher. It is a despicable site that encourages academic dishonesty Our school has asked them repeatedly to take down copyrighted material and has been ignored. Please don’t promote this.

    1. Hey Jennifer,

I did research on Course Hero and I’ve heard things from teachers and administrators on both sides. Some teachers seem to really dislike it, and others seem to really like it because it helps students. Do you think that everyone on Course Hero is cheating? Or, is that just a small percentage of the people who are using it?

      1. Francis Maneeno

Plagiarism is not accepted in institution absolutely. Coursehero, on the other hand, does not promote plagiarism in any way. documents uploaded in course hero are made for educational purposes. if a student has to submit the downloaded document from coursehero, he or she is not allowed to copy-paste but use the knowledge in the material downloaded and submit his new work. if jeniffer bell coursehero is promoting plagiarism, then all bookshop should be closed for they bear someones ideas.
        thanks

        1. Lii

On point Francis. Course Hero, just like any other material for academic purposes, should not be discouraged.

    2. Dorcas

This sounds like s great side hustle especially if your focused on paying off student loans! Thank you Michelle! I will definitely add this one to my list.

      Cheer,

as a teacher you should adapt your examination methods that will still challenge the student and hit academic goals despite having access to the whole of the internet. Especially in the pandemic online setting. It seems your methods are too conventional that it can be cheated using Course Hero. A site that give supplemental knowledge.

    4. I used to work for a company I won’t name. One of my biggest roles was emailing Quizlet, CourseHero, Chegg, etc. to have them take down copyrighted material. CourseHero always took down the material I asked. They never contested whether it was plagiarized. Maybe it was because of how big our company is, I’m not sure. I’m sure you have reasons for not liking them but that was my experience.

  2. CourseHero gets good reviews and is a great way for aspiring and current adjunct instructors in high schools and college universities to supplement their income with a relevant side hustle to their current career.

Your blog post implies that applying to Course Hero is a simple process. It is not. One must submit proof of educational background, which can require writing to an institution and requesting verification be sent to you, and then you send it on to Course Hero. In addition, one must send a photo of a photo ID, plus a photo of oneself holding the photo ID.

    1. Thanks! I do talk about how you must submit proof and how you must apply 🙂

    2. BethAF

Successfully applying for Course Hero took me about ten minutes, tops.

  8. Thanks for sharing this Michelle! I have never heard of Course Hero before, but I am now considering it as a side hustle. My husband and I are working towards becoming debt free, and this would be a fantastic option for me, as it will allow me to stay home, be there for my kids AND continue to work on my blog 🙂

  9. I used a similar platform in the past. That’s a great way to make some extra money after day work 🙂

  10. Larry Frank

In my country, I have tried tutoring people from guest posts on other blogs, but I have not registered on a platform for this purpose specifically before.
This is an awesome way to add extra bucks to your pocket.

  11. Sammy

I am a librarian and also a teacher. This I think is a great way of diversifying one’s income. Great post

  12. Honest tutor who still needs a job

I just tried this. Course Hero is very much promoting plagiarism. I am seeing students post questions directly from their tests, then comment “nevermind, I used up my last attempt.” There are a few honest students who have attempted their problems, and are asking for tutoring, but the majority just want the work plagiarized. Course Hero’s advertised per hour pay is nonsense. It’s $3 per question answered, IF the student decides you get paid for that answer. It takes more time to weed out all the plagiarism requests then it does to teach the few good students. So no, it’s not a tutoring site. False advertising, and the job search goes on.

  13. rhey

I disagreed when someone said its cheating. I use Course hero sometimes just to understand the topic or subject that I am having a hard time, but I never copy or plagiarize. For me, it is a good option for those students that struggling with their course. I think it still depends on students but does not necessarily mean they were using course hero to plagiarize.

Hello, we share citizenship… Can I apply to be a tutor on this platform

  16. Susan Rogers

Michelle, It is highly misleading to advertise tutors can make $300-$500 a week on Course Hero. I am an associate professor who tutored recently on Course Hero in 2020 for several months. The reality: A tutor can easily take over an hour to answer a student’s question. The payout is $3.00 for a question. Often the question involves an assignment that requires research and has several additional questions within that the student indicates he/she wants answered as well for the same $3.00 payout. Then the student can totally reject the answers without giving any reason whatsoever. The tutor does not get paid for any rejected answers. I found Course Hero admin always support the students- -not the tutors. I found a disturbing number of students abuse the system to get their assignments fully completed by qualified tutors and then reject detailed, comprehensive answers in order to get free tutoring.

    1. STEVE

This is the ultimate Truth! Thank you for being truthful more so on this part I ma quoting below!

” Then the student can totally reject the answers without giving any reason whatsoever. The tutor does not get paid for any rejected answers. I found Course Hero admin always support the students- -not the tutors. I found a disturbing number of students abuse the system to get their assignments fully completed by qualified tutors and then reject detailed, comprehensive answers in order to get free tutoring.”

  17. Lynn Rogers

I am an associate professor. I tutored for Course Hero. Here is the reality: The pay out per question is $3.00. A tutor can easily spend over an hour on one question that usually is a student’s assignment that includes several additional questions within. The payout remains only $3.00, no matter how many internal questions are required. These assignments often require research. A student can totally reject the tutor’s answers without giving any reason. Tutors do not get paid for rejected answers. I found a disturbing number of students just want their assignments completed by qualified tutors and get free tutoring by rejecting detailed, comprehensive answers.

Hello What months of the year are there many questions on coursehero? I heard that there are months where there are not a lot of questions

  19. Vashni

Hello, how do I know if my application is course hero as a tutor is rejected or accepted?

  20. Peppa91

Hi. I found this blog after I found out that the question I painstakingly answered yesterday on Course Hero was rated Helpful but not paid. This is really frustrating for me cause I spent hours answering that question but I got nothing in return. I fully agree with what @Honest tutor who still needs a job says said. Students can decide whether or not to accept your answer. But this is so unfair on the part of tutors. Not all questions are easy. All questions I encountered were difficult, and I spent hours reading and doing research for the topic so that I can properly answer it. But all these efforts are for nothing if the student decides not to pay you for your answer. Course Hero can be a promising online job if tutors are paid for every answer they submit that are helpful for students. 🙁

  21. Timothy

I remember back in 2016 you could open a coursehero account as fast as it took to fry an egg. Well students posted their questions and tutors answered. The price was based on agreement between tutors and students. The evergreedy Course hero used to take 70%!! Imagine! Most tutors are from Africa and Asia. So if a student was paying $100 the assigned tutor got $30. This lead to low quality submission. The the merciless support lead by Jeremy were nothing short of horror to tutors. Later they put all questions to a flat rate of $3. Dont forget $3 is 30% of what students pay. Surely a student who has payed $10 expects good work. But here is our sweet blogger lying to us. I saw those $3 questions and they take long to complete. Some can take hours if not a whole day. Worst part is you are paid is student is satisified and some have tricks up their sleeves. Anyway course heroe is a blood sucking company not abiding by slavery laws while promoting cheating. No matter how you look at it , course heroe is not a tutoring platform . It is a cheating site.
